Aliwal Shoal is rated in the Top 10 dive sites of the world. This dive destination is one that surprises you every day – you never know what you going to get to experience.

Dive sites range from 10 meters to 32 meters, which makes it possible for all level of divers. It is a rocky reef structure which is the remains of an ancient sand dune.

Scuba Destination Highlights

Cathedral is one of the most popular dive site on Aliwal Shoal, as this is where the Ragged Tooth Sharks are in full force during May – November months, sometimes surprising you to December with still some sightings of them.

The Baited Shark Dives are a MUST do when visiting Aliwal Shoal. The sharks do not get fed, but bait get used to attract them to the stem.

There is also two magnificent wrecks in the area, The Produce and The Nebo. Both deep dives, so advanced qualification is needed and would recommend Nitrox to make it worth your while.

Possible Sightings

The diversity of marine life is just phenomenal. From tropical fish, macro species to Sharks, Various Ray Species, Potato Bass, and even a Great White Shark that might surprise you.

There are also a lot of seasonal sightings, so make sure your bucket list to see is in the right season, but you might even see your to see sighting out of season on Aliwal, because you never know what you going to get.
