What is the Sardine Run?

This is an expedition like no other and we are super excited for the Sardine Run 2022!

Every year off the coast of South Africa, billions of sardine’s spawns in the cool waters of the Agulhas bank, and from there they usually split into thousands of shoals as they move northward along the east coast of South Africa.

With this immense amount of migrating fishes it attracts the oceans apex’s predators who work together to round up and get in on this feeding frenzy.

Where will we stay?

We will be staying at Bull’s Inn Lodge, nestled in the hills of the Eastern Cape, South Africa. Bull’s Inn is a family run business, providing a homely stay, home cooked meals and a family atmosphere.

All their rooms are en-suite or have a private bathroom; they are neat, cozy and spacious.

Why Mpame?

The Sardine Run is prolific around the Wild Coast from Port St Johns to Coffee Bay in the Transkei which is the main reason we set up base in the area, it simply offers the best of the activity.

Can I come by myself?

Many of our guests are single individuals. You will be a part of a group, where most leave as family & friends. :-)

When does the Sardine run take place?

The best time to experience this event is between the months June & July. However, in 2021 the sardines we seen all the way into August.

Where does the sardine run start?

The sardines spawn down South on the Agulhas Bank and move Northwards towards KwaZulu Natal.
